Our commitment

Accessibility statement

The Town of Hazelhurst is committed to making this website accessible to everyone, regardless of disability or assistive technology.

WCAG 2.1 AA

What we are doing

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA level across all pages of this site.

Specific measures in place on this site include:

  • A visible skip-navigation link at the top of every page so keyboard users can bypass repeated header content.
  • Logical heading order (H1 → H2 → H3) throughout, providing a navigable document outline for screen readers.
  • Descriptive alt text on informational images; decorative images carry an empty alt="".
  • All interactive elements — buttons, links, form controls — are native HTML elements with visible focus indicators.
  • Form fields are associated with explicit <label> elements; icon-only controls carry aria-label attributes.
  • Color contrast meets the 4.5:1 minimum ratio for normal text and 3:1 for large text at the AA level.
  • The viewport meta tag does not restrict user scaling.
  • Touch targets are sized to a minimum of 44 × 44 CSS pixels.
  • Hover-only styles are wrapped in @media (hover: hover) so touch users are unaffected.

Known limitations

Meeting agendas and minutes are provided as scanned PDF documents uploaded by the clerk. Older PDFs may not be fully tagged for screen readers. We are working to make new documents accessible at upload time. If you need a document in an alternative format, please contact the clerk directly.

Feedback and assistance

If you experience a barrier on any page — broken focus order, missing alt text, a form you cannot complete — please let us know. We will investigate and respond within five business days.
